how to replace change pvc pvc valves on nissan 300zx turbo non engine

Hello everyone, I am the webmaster for www.nissansonly.com and a proud owner of a 1996 Nissan 300zx Convertible.
Today i will show you how to change both PCV valves on a 300zx. Today I had to give my 1996 z32 a tuneup to pass the emission test. One way to help you pass the emision test, is to change the PCV(Positive Crankcase Valve) valve.
If this post has helped you, please post your reply, I appreciate any feedback. If i get good feedback, i want to do do more howto's like this one in the future. - thanks
Here are the locations of both valves:First step is to remove the oil dip stick
Using a pair of needle nose plyers, remove the tension clip from the PCV vavle hose:
Once you have moved the clip away from the PVC valve and into the middle of the hose, you can remove the hose. I use a big screw driver to pry out the hose. NOTE: if the hose is hard, your best bet is to cut it and buy a new one. If this is the first time you are changing your pvc, the hose is most likely very hard by now. I change the PVC valves every two years, so the hoses are flexible in my car, so I use a screw driver to get is out of the PVC valve:
Once you have pry out the hose, it should be easy to remove the other end of the hose:
next, you will need a 19mm deep socket to remove the PCV valve.
once you have your 19mm deep socket and rachet, ready, loosen the valve:
Once you have removed the old valve, shake it, it should rattle if its good. In my case, the it did not rattle at all, which means the valve was defective and it needed to be replaced. here is the new and the old valve
Since mine bad defective i went to the local auto parts store near me and purchase two valves.
Now install the new valve. IMPORTANT: make sure you start to thread it by hand first. otherswise you might ruin the threads.
Now do the passenger side:
Remove the valve the same way by using a big screw driver to pry it the hose from the valve:
IMPORTANT: as you can see from this picture, the valve is not actually threaded all the way it, the valve is designed to screw into the intake manifol about half way, DO NOT OVER TIGHT the valve, or else you run the risk of breaking your intake manifold.
Now remove the valve with a 19mm socke and a rachet. This time you will need to use and extension to make it easy to get it out.
Once you have removed the valve with the racket, install the new PVC valve with the new one. Make sure to start installing the new valve by hand first, otherwise you run the risk of ruining the threads.
INFO: you're most likely not be able to find the hoses at your local autoparts store. i tried these places but they dont sell them: napa auto parts, kragen, autozone, pepboys - so you're best is to go to the local dealer and buy them. another option is to buy them online, courtesyparts.com have them cheaper.
DONE: If this post has helped you, please post your feedback here. I would like to know if this has helped anyone so that I may post howto's in the future. Thanks
Hope this helps.

thank you for the update on the pvc valve it was very helpfull, i own a 1991 300zx twinturbo and white smoke was baffling me when i started the car in the morning, but from what i have read so far that it is down to condensation. i then stumbled across info on the pvc valve which can also be the cause of white smoke is this correct? i bought my car with the engine damaged and i replaced it with another, should i have put two new ones on to keep it running ok cause they didnt look to be in good condition, and would it harm my engine in any way? is there any other info on the 300zx engine of problems that i should look out for? the car at the moment is running like a new one. i have replaced all the small water pipes around the engine due to some leaking before. thank you

your tips were helpful in assisting with replacing the pcv valves the pictures were of great quality. i can't find a repair manual for my 1993 nissan 300zx. right now i'm troubleshooting a high idle in order to pass smog. i replaced the fuel pressure regulator and now am doing the pcv valves before i move onto the mass air flow sensor. i'm not sure what else to look into. i already checked vacuum leaks. next i'm going to be looking for instructions on a mass air flow sensor if the pcv's don't do the trick.

omg, you're write up shows in detail the location and what a pcv valve looks like for the z32 instead of ttxxxxx 's write up (purposely gave the wrong url to protect the innocent!)
i hate people who provide write up with pictures thinking the rest of the public will know what and where it is without giving the actual pictures of the part that we are suppose to be talking about!!!

please tell me what the engine clatter is on my 1990 nissan 300zx non turbo--it sould like lifter noise but i have been told it may have someting to do with the variable valve timing---some kind of fix which stops this plop-plop-plop noise which recently started--this is an adult owned 117000 mile garage kept car-never abused-never low on oil-always changed every 3000 miles--

nice writeup with details and pictures, a job well done my man! always use anti-seize compound or paste on these or any other item that's not brass. secondly, don't overtighten the pcv valves...you can cause a crack in your plenum. as far as pollution, every 100k...change out your oxyegen sensors (2) located deep in the engine bay after the headers...this helps for pollution. and if you really have to...change out for pollution the egr valve....a real pain in the ass.....because you have to remove the exhust up to the headers, then remove the drive shaft, then drop the transmission, because it's directly ubove the transmission. and if you do all that work...you may as well, change out the clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing because it's all right there...and change out the rear main seal and the old rubber trans mount. if you get a new flywheel 11 lb. fidanza or equivalent, and if you want for $500 get a powertrain alumumium driveshaft..your car will fly-super torque!

as i said before thx for to info, but next time i will leave it to the professionals.in removing the drivers side pcv i broke the housing area of the pcv.now i have to replace the whole intake.i am totally disgusted with myself and have to come out of pocket with money i don't have.i'll know next time.
Tony:
your instructions do not explain where the pcv valves are actually located, just a picture of arrows point where you just might but doubtfully find the pcv valves. be more specific.
zcar:
im sorry my friend, i really tried to show where they are located because they are hard to find, so thats why i took the pictures and put arrows, if you take a look at one of the pics above, it clearly shows where it is.
look at the yellow arrow on this picture:
