do you want to know how to clean your car throttle body? today i will teach how about cleaning your intake throttle body in your car. i had to do this recently because i was getting it ready for a smog check. so this is what i did.
1. the first thing you are going to need is a cleaning solvent. you can find a spray at your local auto parts store. the one i am using is called 'fuel injection air intake cleaner' - Always follow the instructions on the cars manual before any other instructions. if there are none, next follow the instructions given on the cleaner.
2. once you have the solvent, you will need to open your hood and find the intake manifold. the manifold is the aluminum part at the very top of the engine. the throttle usually is directly connected to the air filter.
as you can see from the picture above, the intake manifold is the silver part on top of the engine.
3. remove the hose cover and this will expose the throttle body fly, so start your engine (should be at normal operating temperature.)
4. spray plenty of cleaning solvent and open the throttle as all the black stuff is removed by the chemical. be sure not to inhale the fumes from the chemicals. the picture below is how the throttle looks like
5. this is how its usually done, if this is your first time doing it. i would advise you to take it to a shop and watch how they do it, next time you will have an idea how they do it.
