what is a misdemeanor? a misdemeanor is when you broke the law and you have to go to court to declare if you are innocent or guilty. misdemeanor is not a big criminal offense, usually you are given a misdemeanor charge when the damages or the fines exceed 500 dollars for example, you can get a misdemeanor for stealing, if what you stole is less than 500, but its more, you could get something else

i was caught stealing a bra for about $12. the cops took me to the back of the store, he took down my information and left. i later received a subpoena in the mail. i went to court and had to pay a fine. i also had to go some classes and do community service. it was my first offense. will this be on my record? if so, how long? will this stop me from getting a job in a major corporation? would something like this make me get negative results on a background check?
