why can't i upload a profile picture on facebook

i have a picture i want to put on my profile in my facebook, but when i try to upload it, the website says its too large. i downloaded the walllpaper from Wallpaperama and i was wondering if there is something special instructions on how i can make my picture for my facebook upload as my default image.
