ls -la
if you want to know how big your files are and want to show or display the file sizes, use the -la after the ls command and it will show you how big the files are.

oh thanks, i was just wondering if how can i get a list of all my files and directories but in alphabetical order or how about if i wanted to the listing of the directory to be in order of date. that would be helpful to know if you can show me how you can do that. give me the command to display the list in alfabetical oder please, i have this directory which has many files and its overwhelming to find anything when i do it your way.
