I could go on and on, but can someone tell me please.otherwise i am going to be very disapointed.
if you ask a hundred people what "emo" mean, they'll probably tell you 100 diferent answers. i want to know what is emo or how i can be an emo, how can you be an emo? I have some theories of what this word means, but i am not sure, i want to get some opinions here maybe there are some people who have a better idea of this word means anyway. well, if you want to know what my theories are, here they are: black nail polis, dashboard, confesional album or hair mousse or spray.??? i am right? I bet there's gota be some cool emo hairstyles
anyway, im not as hip as others, but i sure would like to know what EMO means

emo. short for emotional. emo. a genre of punk rock. emo. a dress code of tiny t-shirts and horn-rimmed glasses. type the word "emo" into your average search engine and you'll get over three million results that will encompass nearly that many different opinions of what emo actually is. the general approach to the term is a lot like the approach to pornography, "i can't tell you exactly what it is, but i'll know it when i see (or hear) it."
the history of emo is somewhat less ambiguous than its current meaning. "emo" music developed out of the d.c. punk scene in the 'yxs. in its original incarnation, emo was short for emocore, or emotional-hardcore. the name was applied to hardcore punk rock bands who distinguished themselves from their peers by adding an emotional component to their music, dealing with sadness and love and angst in their lyrics. the music was also characterized by particularly dramatic vocals which, at best, left the audience in an emotionally charged state, crying or screaming. these days, emo has been popularized and sent into the mainstream through bands like dashboard confessional, taking back sunday and saves the day.

lately, labeling someone as "emo" is something of a put-down, a stand-in for "overly emotional" or "melodramatic." the implication is that they are excessively moody and angsty, prone to crying jags and plagued by a love of bad poetry. hot topic even issued a patch that read, "cheer up, emo kid!" but for those who call themselves emo, the term means something more pure. at its core, emo is all about being upfront with your emotions. or, as one "expert" defined it, "emo is like being goth, but much less dark, much more harry potter."

emo is more emotional,harder to fake. yes,some emos cut themselves,but there is more than that. emo is one of the hardest things,to explain. people hate emos,b/c they view us as suicidal,cry babies,or just week. that's not what emo is. suicidal yes,at times. but,don't judge me for being emo. it's not what i chose to be. it's just what i am.

hey i have been reading some of these comments as i was trying to find out what the word emo stood for,,well i have bipolar disorder which means i get depressed i love metal music (mcr etc) and my hair is kinda black its blonde and black tho i hate wearing the colour black,,i used to cut myself in my teenage years (im 29 now) so does that mean i would be classed as an emo or could it just be that i am a normal human being who happened to get bullied at school,sexually abused from the age of 7 to 12 years old beaten by my mother and ended up in care i mean surely people like us are quite right to be pissed off without having to have a label attached to us we,r not emo we,r unfortunates that were born into the shi**est of lives but hey life is wot u make it rite so i say dont be depressed about wot other people say or do your only responsiblity is to your own actions not the actions of others thanks for reading have a good day and merry xmas

sigh. the problem with the emo is that it has managed to become a subculture. it's more fasionable than being goth but usually will have all the refrences to pain and death. i think the problem with emo stems from extreemists! they run it into the ground. they could ruin anything by overdoing it. people who are really really emo arnt very nice to be around. i mean, who wants to hang out with someone who is really emotive or hardcore. damn hardcore folk.
