To turn ACPI off edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file and add ``acpi=off'' at the end of the kernel line that corresponds to kernel 2.4.26-1.ll, and reboot the machine.

which purpose you can turn off acpi and also i got a problem i grub edit
it's shown kernel is not load i gave this command in the grub edit that is kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-8.el5 ro root=label=/1 rhgb quiet cashkernel=1 please guide me ........send it through my mail id
