screen savers were very popular in the 1990's and 2000's when everyone still used CRT monitors. as the name screen savers implies, the images and the animation used to make the the image move so that the image if it was stattic it would not burn the image in to the monitor glass screen. sometimes i see this on old ATM machines that use CRT monitors.
